Brno, Czech Republic — November 2, 2025

Czechia’s women’s water polo team wrapped up their EU Nations campaign with a dominant 15–4 victory over Scotland in Sunday’s 5th/6th place playoff, with their second win over the Scots in the tournament.

The match saw Czechia take control early and never relinquish it. By the end of the third quarter, the hosts had built an unassailable 11–1 lead, with Scotland managing just a single goal in the opening 24 minutes of play.

Czechia’s attack was relentless and well-distributed, with Adriana Voláková, Lucie Bakalová, and Jolana Chodlová each scoring three goals. Their defense was equally effective, stifling Scotland’s attempts to build momentum and forcing multiple exclusions.

Scotland’s only goal in the first three quarters came from Nicole Morrison, who remained one of the few bright spots for the team. The final quarter saw a brief resurgence, with Anna Campbell, Eve Kerr, and Morrison again finding the net. But Czechia, already comfortably ahead, saw out the match with composure, adding four more goals to seal the result.

The final goal came from Sabina Zdobinská with just seven seconds left, putting the finishing touches to a commanding performance.

With the win, Czechia secured fifth place in the tournament, while Scotland will finish sixth, taking away valuable experience from a challenging campaign.

However it is clear that a rethink is required if Scotland is to become competitive in this tournament and any other tournament other than the home nations, with the continued reliance on the self-funding model for the national team is just not working.
