Singapore – July 13, 2025 – The preliminary round of the women’s water polo tournament at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships has concluded its second day of competition at the OCBC Aquatic Centre. With initial matches now played across all groups, several teams have established strong positions, with Hungary and USA already securing their places in the quarterfinal stage.
The game of the day was Netherlands v USA which did not disappoint, played at an incredible fast pace throughout.
The United States established an early lead, ending the first quarter with a 3-2 advantage. They extended their lead significantly in the second quarter, outscoring the Dutch to go into halftime 7-5. While the Netherlands attempted to close the gap in the second half, the U.S. maintained their offensive pressure, holding a 9-6 lead by the end of the third quarter before ultimately closing out the game 11-9.
Key offensive contributions for the United States included Emily Ausmus, who recorded 3 goals from 7 shots, and Ryann Neushul, who converted 2 of her 3 attempts. Emma Lineback also contributed 2 goals on 2 shots. For the Netherlands, Lieke Rogge was a primary scorer, contributing 3 goals from 5 shots.
USA goalkeeper Amanda Longan made 8 saves from 17 shots faced, achieving a 47% save rate. Netherlands goalkeeper Sarah Buis recorded 6 saves from 17 shots faced, with a 35% save rate.
